Habitat |
Inhabit nearly every aquatic habitat in the world, except for open oceans. Habitat preferences is dependent on oxygen needs. Generally they are divided into two broad categories of habitat: species that live in aquatic or semi-aquatic habitats. |
Feeding Information |
Some species feed on aquatic plants, algae, leaf litter and submerged wood. Others use their brush-like appendages to filter organic matter from water. Scrappers consume algae, microbes and detritus from substrates. |
Water Quality Tolerance |
Some species are restricted to fresh, clean water. Other species are tolerant of pollution and environmental stress from human activity or naturally severe habitats. |
