Description
Habitat Inhabit nearly every aquatic habitat in the world, except for open oceans. Habitat preferences is dependent on oxygen needs. Generally they are divided into two broad categories of habitat: species that live in aquatic or semi-aquatic habitats.
Feeding Information Some species feed on aquatic plants, algae, leaf litter and submerged wood. Others use their brush-like appendages to filter organic matter from water. Scrappers consume algae, microbes and detritus from substrates.
Water Quality Tolerance Some species are restricted to fresh, clean water. Other species are tolerant of pollution and environmental stress from human activity or naturally severe habitats.
